Morning Star Arts and Science College for Women is a Higher Educational Catholic Institution founded and administrated by the Congregation of the Immaculate Conception Society, Madurai (Sivagangai province) was started on 2018. The Congregation has a vast experience in the field of secondary, Senior Secondary and teacher training education in addition to other types of social works. The college is located in Pasumpon, situated at 4km from Abiramam. However for these young girls, school education seems to be terminal and they do not pursue higher education for lack of easy accessibility to colleges. In this situation, the management desired to bring a radical change and development among this deprived section of society and planned to open an Arts and Science College. So that these young girls will be able to continue their higher studies peacefully under the care of their parents.
It started functioning with 7 students in 1918 as an intermediate course with English, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Commerce and Commerce with Computer Application. The college aims to impart quality education coupled with moral values, on par with urban students in offering them new courses, which are fast improving and useful for their future. Affiliated to Alagappa University, G.O.No 157, Dated 13.07.2018. The college now offers 8 UG and 1 PG course. With the spirit of goodwill, it imparts quality higher education with creative, critical, and communication skills in addition to domain knowledge to women students, especially the poor, the needy and the underprivileged for their holistic development in response to the greatest commandment of love of our Lord Jesus Christ and for contribution to building a developed India. It provides opportunities for honing their employability skills through curricular and co-curricular training. It also motivates students to be responsible citizens and to be accountable for their time invested and competence acquired. In this context, it has signed fu nctional MoUs with various universities, colleges and with other reputed industries/agencies. Besides academic the college aims at the integral development of the students especially in spiritual, psychological, social and civic values. The motto of our college is to empower the women in meaningful living, excellent achievement, positive thinking and purposeful opportunity.
In addition to certificate courses in Certificate in Microsoft Office (Ms-Office),DTP Operator, Tally Prime the college offers various Skill Development Courses. The college boasts lively and dynamic NSS units, Student Council Club, extensive sports facilities, a welcoming canteen, a spacious auditorium, well-equipped seminar halls, ample lecture halls, beautifully landscaped gardens, an outdoor gymnasium, and comfortable hostel accommodations.
